Photo Shoot Planning

Photo Shoot Planning

The shoot
For the advert the picture we are planning to use is of the band stood in the order of if they were playing, this would be the drums at the back middle with the two guitarists slightly in front of her but one either side with the main singer in the middle so he stands out. They will all have their instruments although none of them will be playing they will just have them. In the background there will be a image of the band logo displayed slightly above them, this will be done using a green screen.
 Location

I am planning to have the photo shoot for the advert in the college studio, as it is a wide-open space with a green screen allowing us to do what we like with few limitations. We could also use the stage as another idea as it is another wide-open space that is appropriate to a band.

Costume
The costume will be mainly dark colours, black skinny jeans and a dark coloured shirt, this will be for all members except the main singer who will be in a white shirt so he stands out so people know that he is the main man. There are no preference to what shoes are worn as they are only shoes and do not define a band or person (unless they are something extravagant) so the band members can wear whatever shoes they so desire, also shoes are expensive and I do not have the funds to supply £40 worth of shoes to everyone to use for one time. The hair will be natural which is relatively long from all the members witch is there natural length, they will be nothing done with the hair and it will just be down as it usually is. Most pop-punk bands have long haired members and it is a convention for the members to have long hair that is worn down.
We are not wearing make-up as it is an unnecessary expense as although some pop-punk bands used to wear it (Panic! at the disco) it is just as common not to wear it.

Choosing Artist's Name

Artists need a name and we needed a name that would be generic for a pop punk band, this name would be easy to remember and would stand out in the audiences mind so it would not be forgotten.

The name I finally chose was 'Tougher Than Kittens' it is an usual name so people would remember it and it is a name I would associate with pop punk and if this was a real band name I would expect it to be of the pop punk genre.

The name will appear in the advert and digipak so it was important I thought of a name.

Filming techniques and inspiration

My diary (updating)

Wednesday 16th October
Today Jacob and me did our first bit of recording. We recorded the band scene, which we planned to do in a studio like location, but as I was unaware we had to book it, someone else had beaten us to the punch. This left us with a decision, find somewhere else or leave it for another day. Since everyone came in we decided we would try and find somewhere else to film our scene. This led us to the music rehearsal room, which was very cramped but already had a drum kit in so we thought we would give it a shot. It was as I feared and was very cramped and led us to get in each others way and not having enough room to play comfortably. Regardless of all this we still got what we wanted to record done but I am planning to re-do it as I am not happy enough with the final product. This time I will make sure to book the studio so I can get the shots and the footage that I want.

Equipment list

Equipment list

Before shooting our music video we will need all the props and equipment ready to go for each scene. This list of equipment and props will also be featured in the call sheet detailing the locations of our filming.

For our actual filming we will be using a Panasonic camcorder provided by the college, the small nature of this camera makes it easy to carry and use whilst moving which might be helpful when shooting our music video. These images shows the size of the camera we are going to use, easy to carry around with as and not too big to be able to shoot whilst on the move however when moving it could be shaky but that could add to our music video as it would adhere to the conventions of it not being a traditional music video.

As well as the camera a tripod will be used in most scenes to maintain an aspect of stability when filming so it does not look overly unprofessional. It will also help to perform some of the pans, which we are planning on including in our music video. The college will also provide the tripod we will be using and due to its size and compactness it will be easy to carry around if wee need to move locations.

Prop list

As our music video will feature lots of live performance shots we will need the props of a regular punk band, during the scene where Liam sings on his own only a guitar will be needed whereas the rest of the shots on location at college will need a drum kit, another guitar to make it look like a stereotypical band. Other props such as drinks for people at the people will be needed to make it seem realistic. Another prop key to this scene will be an invitation Liam received in an earlier scene prior to this event. In another scene previous to this one, the one where Liam receives the invitation a bin will be needed as he is placed in it after sticking up for someone else.

Animatic (ADTR - All signs point to lauderdale)

While creating my animatic I came upon some problems. I had realised that I tried to put to many shots in to a to short of an amount of time thus leaving me with no option to get rid of some shots. I had also realised later on that it did not fully fit to how I wanted it meaning I had to change the size of some clips and remove another clip which turned out to be unnecessary. I had also later realised I had put the timings on the actual story board wrong and of instead carrying on from the last second, I had missed a second which led to the timings being a bit different. I found one more problem which was I had put the wrong timings into the story board as I had gone from the 20th second to the 10th instead of the 30th which left me confused for a while until I had figured out my mistake.

album artwork mood board

As you can see in every album there is a running picture and this is of a either a person or people. It is not necessarily the band members every time but there is people in it. This gives me the idea to add either a picture of the band on te front of the digipak or at least something that is representative of the band whether that is the logo or the band members.
